Unpaid Archival Digitization Internship Opportunity at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s Indiana History Room

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s Indiana History Room is seeking applicants for an unpaid internship focusing on archival digitization projects. The Digitization Internship is open to a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in history, public history, library and information science, archives management, museum studies or related fields. All work associated with this specialized unpaid internship will focus on the digitization of documents for the purposes of public accessibility and information preservation in conjunction with the Floyd County Clerk’s Office.

The qualified applicant for this Digitization Internship will be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Picture Manager, and other picture editing software. The applicant must have experience with the general operation of digital scanners and digital cameras. The applicant must also have the ability to work independently, a keen attention to detail, manual dexterity required to perform effective cropping, and strong written and verbal communication skills. All equipment and training will be provided on site by Indiana Room staff members.

The unpaid Digitization Internship will comprise of 160 to 200 hours. The Library Archivist will work with the intern to establish a work schedule that accommodates the intern’s class schedule and other commitments; however minimum shifts of 4 hours are required. Duties will include the digitization of Floyd County Clerk’s Office Books currently in house, and/or other rare and historic books belonging to the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.

• A letter of recommendation from a faculty member

Once all the application materials are received and reviewed, a short personal interview will be scheduled, which can be done in person at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.
