Unpaid Collection Inventory Internship Opportunity at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s Indiana History Room

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library’s Indiana History Room is seeking applicants for an unpaid internship focusing on the book collection in the Indiana History Room. The Collection Internship is open to a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in history, public history, library and information science, archives management, museum studies or related fields. All work associated with this specialized unpaid internship will include collection management, inventory, and cataloging.

The qualified applicant for this Collection Internship will be proficient in Microsoft Office, common database management systems, basic knowledge in the dewey decimal system and the ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Previous library cataloging experience preferred.

The unpaid Collection Internship will comprise of 160 to 200 hours. The Library Archivist will work with the intern to establish a work schedule that accommodates the intern’s class schedule and other commitments; however minimum shifts of 4 hours are required. Duties will include an extensive inventory of the Indiana History Room’s book collection, as well as updating catalog records for each book.

Applicants for the unpaid Collection Inventory Internship should submit the following items by Aptil 3, 2017:
• A resume detailing educational and work experience
• A cover letter
• A letter of recommendation from a faculty member

Once all the application materials are received and reviewed, a short personal interview will be scheduled, which can be done in person at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library. One intern will be accepted for this internship at this time.
